Hospital Special Needs Inc.
Group Transportation for Seniors and People with Disabilities
Hospital Special Needs Inc. is a charitable organization. We operate Care Coaches which are specially designed to carry seniors and people with disabilities. Many seniors and people with disabilities reside in nursing homes, homes for the aged, disability centres and hospitals. Without our services, they are unable to travel in groups to places that the rest of us take for granted. It is our aim to augment services for people with disabilities to improve their quality of life, other than medical and basic care, which are addressed by institutions and other specific care agencies.
The need for transportation which enables seniors and people with disabilities to participate in leisure activities is recognized by government agencies.
Hospital Special Needs is pledged to help to help fulfill this requirement so that many citizens may enjoy a variety of organized and recreational activities. This is our mandate. However, with the steady rise in operating cost, we cannot do it on our own.

History
Late in 1965, a group of interested individuals met to consider the special needs of patients in Sunnybrook Hospital. Later, the scope of the group's aims was extended to include patients from any caregiving organization in the Greater Toronto Area. The "Hospital Special Needs Committee" was formed in 1966, the organization was incorporated in its present form.
The Corporation is a registered charitable organization, comprised of members of the community who give their time, skills and exoerience on a voluntary basis. A small dedicated staff ensure that reservation are effieciently handled and that all vehicles are properly maintained and operated.

SERVICES
Income
Our Program receives partial support for operating costs from the Province of Ontario, and the City of Toronto.
Contributions made by sponsors, and groups receiving our service also help to partially defray the high operating costs, including those for mandatory vehicle inspections.
However, we rely on the generous support of the public to make up the difference.
Donations of any amounts are appreciated.
We also seek capital funds from time to time to replace aging vehicles.

Gifts and Bequests
Occasionally the phraseology of a will does not clearly indicate the correct name and address, which may cause problems because of a similarity of names, or confusion of names with other organizations. We suggest that the general wording of a bequest be:
I give, devise and bequeath to the Hospital Special Needs Incorporated, of Toronto, the sum of dollars
Donors considering a bequest should consult their lawyers.
